This month marks Electric Pictures’ 30th Anniversary, a major milestone for an independent production company started by young filmmaker, Andrew Ogilvie, after graduating from film school in 1992. Over three decades many talented Australian filmmakers and production staff have greatly contributed to the company’s success, and continue to help grow our content in new directions.

Our catalogue now stands at more than 50 productions with particular expertise in blue chip docs, drama docs, and factual series. We often tackle hard subjects like the exploitation of children as soldiers, and the drama of war, but are also expert at cultural histories, science stories, political intrigue, and a more fun approach to topics such as the Eurovision Song Contest and the Australian wine industry.

It all started in 1993 with the documentary, The Joys of the Women, an uplifting musical journey tracing the lost songs of a generation of Italian immigrant women in Fremantle. The film went on to have a successful cinema release and win many awards.

Over the years the company has produced content for global public broadcasters and cable TV, and more recently has found great international success with the long running factual series, Aussie Gold Hunters, for Discovery.
